Every Diwali, our homes shine with diyas and new decorations. We buy gold on Dhanteras, prepare sweets, and pray for blessings from Maa Lakshmi But have we ever stopped to ask — who is Lakshmi really? Is She only the Goddess of money and gold, or is She something more?
✨ Lakshmi in the Simple Words of the Vedas
The Rig Veda, one of the oldest scriptures, doesn’t describe Lakshmi as just wealth. It calls Her Shri which means grace, beauty, and auspiciousness. The Vedas say that real wealth is not just what we keep in our hands but what we carry in our hearts peace, kindness, and gratitude. When there is love at home, when the mind is calm, and when we give thanks that is when Lakshmi stays.
🌊 The Story of the Ocean of Milk
The old story says that Lakshmi appeared when the gods and demons churned the ocean of milk (Samudra Manthan). From the deep ocean came poison, but after patience and effort came Lakshmi glowing, calm, and full of light. This story reminds us of our own life. When we go through hard times, when we stay patient and kind, something beautiful rises within us that is Lakshmi in our heart.
🌼 Where Does Lakshmi Live?
Lakshmi does not stay where there is anger, greed, or ego. She stays where there is peace (Shanti), faith (Shraddha), and service (Seva). The scriptures say:
“Where women are respected, there the divine energies live.”
A home where a woman is loved and honoured, where there is harmony between family members, and where no one sleeps with pain in their heart that is where Lakshmi truly resides.
💛 The Real Meaning of Diwali
Diwali is not only about lighting lamps outside it’s also about lighting the lamp inside. Each diya we light is a promise to keep our thoughts bright, our actions pure, and our hearts open. Lakshmi doesn’t come just because of rituals; She comes when we fill our home with gratitude, respect, and joy. On this night, let’s not only invite Her to our home but also to our hearts with clean thoughts, soft words, and helping hands.
🕊️ The Spirit of Giving
Lakshmi is not about keeping; She is about sharing. When we help someone, when we donate, when we forgive, She blesses us even more. Money that only stays with us becomes heavy. Money that moves with kindness becomes divine. As I always tell my clients:-
“True prosperity is not what we hold, but what we pass forward with love.”
🌺 A Simple Prayer for This Diwali
“Namastestu Mahā-Māye,
Śrī Peethe Sura Pūjite,
Śaṅkha Chakra Gadā Haste,
Mahā Lakṣmi Namostute.”
Meaning:
“O Divine Mother, seated on the throne of light, holding symbols of wisdom and power, bless us with peace, strength, and grace. ”Chant it once with your eyes closed, and you’ll feel a calm light within you that’s Her blessing.
So this Diwali, don’t just decorate your home decorate your heart. Be kind, stay calm, and show gratitude for everything you have. That’s how you invite Lakshmi and that’s how you make Her stay. “When peace lives in your home, prosperity finds no reason to leave.” May Goddess Lakshmi bless you with peace, love, and endless light🌷
Wishing you and your family a blessed Diwali.
